Labor Day has come and gone and with it so too went the summer. It’s crazy how time flies and how soon we’ll be faced with beautiful smells of apple pies & pumpkin spiced lattes in the air. Those sun-filled summer days brought for many of us BBQs, trips to the beach, and summer excursions. Most of which were filled with delicious food, booze, and a lack of time/motivation to stick to a diet plan.
Last year around this time, the Today Show aired a story that highlighted the idea by Gretchen Rubin that ‘September is your Second-Chance January.’ Rubin states, “Even though I haven’t been in school for a long time, for me, September marks the beginning of a new year. Orange is the new Black, breakfast is the new lunch, Monday is the new Thursday, pork is the other white meat, and September is the other January… January is the official start of the new year, and I always get a burst of renewed zeal at that time, but September also gives the same feeling of an empty calendar and a clean slate. The air seems charged with possibility and renewal… Back-to-school is a time of self-evaluation and reflection…” and what better time for many people to come up with resolution-type goals for their post–Labor Day selves.
For the Eat . Whey . Love team, it has been a dicey few months filled with trips, adventures, and many many reasons to celebrate with food. We’ve enjoyed (without guilt) pizza, ice cream, donuts, burgers, etc etc.. But now it’s time to face the facts – we’ve done some damage and we need to get back to reality. So we’re deciding that today marks the beginning of our Second-Chance January. It’s back to basics for us and we’re recommitting to our diet, to our workouts, and of course to our dreaded cardio. As we prepare to refocus and rededicate, we want to encourage you all to do the same. After all, a diet doesn’t have to start on the first day of the week or the first month of the year.
